Two rainwater harvesting projects were executed between Nov 2019 and Dec 2020.
L&T Serene County - Hyderabad
Palm County - Hyderabad
Every year, Hyderabad experiences on average 800mm of rainfall during the monsoon, where most rainfall ends up falling in drainage systems or soil. However, there is a sizeable amount that falls on surfaces, roads and other areas wherein the water evaporates naturally after some time.
On the flip side, homes and communities in Hyderabad are emptying borewells at an alarming rate, so much so that the natural water collection from rainfall is not enough to recharge these borewells. This project came up as an idea to recharge these borewells in preparation for rough summer seasons in the future (i.e. Droughts).
These projects aimed at channeling rooftop water in Serene County and Surface runaway water in Palm county to be funneled into specialized recharge bores. The recharge bores were created to only accept water and release it back into the ground, eventually making its way to natural borewells.
After successfully completing the projects, there is potentially:
L&T Serene County - 420,000 Liters of water being injected into the ground every year
Palm County - 800,000,00 Liters of water being injected into the ground every year
